if you weren't here ( why booking family photo shoot in your home is worth investing in)
I wonder sometimes what my own children will remember of their childhood? will they remember the constant get ready, the chore list, the hard conversations, or will they remember how loved they were, that I showed up as much as I could for them. As a photographer, my kids are often my subjects. I have some stunningly beautiful photos of each of them individually and all of them together. I have short films of them doing everyday things. Because I hope I can show them one day how I saw them as children and as people. The funny, wise intelligent interesting creatures that they are. I think this is why family photography is of so much interest to me. I didn’t ever get a shoot when they were younger, before I dove back into photography making it my full time job. It is something I wish I had done. To sort of make art from those moments that feel so long and are so fleeting that are the early years of parenting. These days when I am stepping into someones home to photograph them here in Newcastle or further abroad, I want to do it with a sense of honour. With a knowing that the home is sacred and this time is fleeting and to do my best work of making art from that. Because one day I won’t be here but I hope the photos and videos will last a lifetime for you and your family but also for my children, well after i’m gone.
